And as I looked back I could only shriek out in horror, and continue my maddened flight from that cyclopean door. I now knew what the madman had meant when he spoke of the great jar, and of the tree wherein -he- lived, under the name of Sanders. My fevered flight continued with the gargantuan mass lumbering behind me, and many times I was convinced I would be overcome. And as I covered the one-hundred akres of legend, there was a great shaking of the earth, like the one several days before.
As the breath burned in my chest and the madness threatened to overcome me, I saw the boat ahead of me. I stumbled in and in a delusional fog of blissful ignorant luck got it running, speeding away from the shore. The shaking of the earth continued, blowing up a storm that hid that blasted, antediluvian forest from my eyes. But I did not care where I lay, sprawled on the deck, uttering that call, that ancient horrible call that would forever be burned into my mind. It burst from my parched maddened lips, just as the mad hermit Christopher had uttered it before his final doom.
